A word from the maker
In the year 2000, I embarked on a journey that would become Wyldwood Willow. Nestled in the enchanting landscapes of Monmouthshire, South Wales, I have spent over two decades cultivating my craft. Every year, I travel the UK, contributing to events and festivals with captivating workshops and willow weaving demonstrations.
But Wyldwood Willow is more than just a fleeting presence at these gatherings. It's a haven for those who seek the beauty of nature interwoven with human hands. Within the confines of my shop, you'll discover a world where willow reigns supreme. Each creation, lovingly handwoven by me, finds its purpose as a natural element for your home and garden.
My odyssey into the art of willow weaving began over two decades ago when a dear friend introduced me to the magic of crafting a frame basket. Yet, life can be a tapestry of light and shadow, and during those early years, I faced the heart-wrenching loss of my second child to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). In the midst of that grief, a profound decision was made with my then partner: to create a willow coffin for our precious child.
In the supple strands of willow, I found solace, purpose, and a calling. The ancient craft that had crossed my path became my refuge. It ignited a passion to share this timeless skill, and a determination to combat the pervasive scourge of plastic in our world. Thus, Wyldwood Willow blossomed into the thriving sanctuary it is today.
My vision is to carry forward the fading flame of willow weaving. In a world increasingly overrun by mass-produced plastic goods, I'm committed to preserving the centuries-old artistry of willow weaving. This vision extends beyond the confines of a single shop or a single artisan—it's about nurturing a community of like-minded individuals who understand the importance of handmade, sustainable, and beautiful creations.
As you journey through these pages, may you find inspiration in the natural elegance of willow, and the profound stories it weaves into the fabric of our lives. If there's anything I can assist you with, please don't hesitate to reach out. Together, we can continue to nurture the beauty of handcrafted wonders and protect our planet from the tide of plastic.
